Berlin ’36 is based on the true story of Jewish high jumper Gretel Bergmann, who was the favorite for the gold medal at the 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics.  After the United States threatens to boycott the Olympic Games if Jewish athletes are not allowed on the German team, Bergmann, a Jewish champion high jumper, is invited to train. But the Nazis contrive a scheme to keep the gold medal from her and promote an unknown athlete named Marie Ketteler -- a man passing as a woman. Although their coach uses every means to undermine Bergmann’s preparations, she consistently outscores her other competitors. In the meantime, Gretel and Marie forge a strong friendship during their training.  It is up to Marie to decide whose side she really is on.
